The Campaign-Ending Paragraph

THE TITLE of this post is a bit of hyperbole. But it ought not be. In the September/October edition of Contingencies, a publication of the American Academy of Actuaries, Barack Obama and John McCain put forth their plans for health care reform. The crux of the maverick-cum-neocom-cum-economic populist's health care reform?

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

Game. Set. Match.
