Blackeye Peas

I just harvested and ate some fresh blackeye peas. A gorgeous undertaking. Such sublime sweet flavor. I may never eat another one dried.

Peas taste very different when they're fresh, don't they?

We use green gungo peas to make soup..with the ham bone from Christmas dinner. The peas stay fresh if you freeze them, rather than letting them dry. It's the Jamaican version of split pea, with ham hock soup.
