World AIDS Day 2006

Today is World AIDS Day. As the above map from the BBC indicates [src], the prevalance of AIDS in southern Africa is astounding. While certain leaders of a particular bent shout abstinence from the rooftops, this author speaks of another kind of abstinence in fighting AIDS worldwide.

On a local level, this blogger includes a letter to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice regarding the State Department's refusal to admit people living with HIV into the U.S. Foreign Service.

He also includes a link to a Bristol-Meyer-Squibb website: Light To Unite. The pharmaceutical company will donate $1 for each person who clicks on the light the candle link (up to a total of 100, 000 US dollars).

As he writes: "You can make a difference with your computer! Do it now." Say it again.
