6:35 AM

GINA CALLED. He has crossed over. At 4:31 AM, just when she woke up and I finally lay down after being unable to sleep, Daddy drew his last breath. Mama said his face wore a magnificent smile.

Thank You for a fast and peaceful transition.

Daddy, I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces all day through...

I am so, so sorry to hear this Craig. As someone who has been through it with my Dad - the illness, the watching, the waiting - I know what you went through and must be going through now. My condolences to you and your whole family in this time of sorrow.

At Sunset

Through joy and sorrow we have
walked hand in hand;
we are resting from our wandering
now above the quiet countryside.

Around us the valleys slope away;
already the air is growing dark,
only two larks are left climbing
into the haze, dreaming of the night.

Come near and let them flutter;
soon it will be time to sleep,
lest we should lose our way
in this solitude.

O broad, still peace.
So deep in the sunset,
how tired of wandering we are –
could this perhaps be death?

On the Loss of Your Father

A smile, a touch,
a gentle laugh remembered,
a voice softly whispered
in the wind...

May the memories
held deep within your heart
help to soothe your spirit
at this time.

Thinking of you in symapathy and love.

One need only read your words about your father to begin to realise not only the magnitude of the loss, but also the strength and passion he brought to this life, and the influence and memories he has blessed you and others with for all the years to come. From me to you, Craig, my condolences.

We missed you in the ESPN forums, Craig. I sent an email asking if you were ok. I am so sorry about your Dad. I lost my parents years ago, and it's something I wish everyone could avoid.

I am an adoptive parent. Five of our eight are adopted. We believe in open adoption, if possible.

Hi Sue,

Your words are welcome. Who are you on ESPN? And do you really live in Maine or is that just your last name? Oh, well, this is a public place, I don't expect you to answer. Hehe.

Losing a parent is rough, no two ways about it. I'm knee-deep in grief, but that's how I do things.

Nice to meet another person in the adoption circle. Peace to your and yours.
