Complete List

Okay, I’m not down with all the Clint Eastwood love. Enough already. His lugubrious films tend to put me to sleep. Flags of Our Fathers didn’t even get a best picture nod (and could somebody please tell me how the hell that poor excuse for a film called Bobby made the final cut?). Why the need for the Clint double whammy? Anybody else would do: Pedro Almodovar, Paul Greengrass, Todd Field, Bill Condon. Just not two nods for Clint. It’s so over-the-top.

Same goes for Leo DiCaprio. Ever since Martin Scorsese crowned him the next DeNiro, he has overacted and been so damn, well… earnest. I don’t like earnest. I haven’t seen Blood Diamond, but I hear Leo’s super in it. Fine. No reason to give him a nod for The Departed as well. Spread the wealth, HFPA! I know you like to starfuck, but I didn’t realize you had the hots for Leo. You could’ve given Ryan Gosling a shoutout for Half Nelson. But that woulda been too much like right.

And thanks for snubbing Bill Condon. I guess musicals direct themselves. Yeah. Right. And while the critics dismissed Babel, HFPA spewed all over it, giving it the most nods with 7. I thought surely Dreamgirls would get the most nods. At least Eddie Murphy finally showed up and Jennifer Hudson is right where she belongs (and you got your shoutout, too, Miss Beyoncé). Here’s hoping the Babel actresses cancel each other out, Cate Blanchett’s ubiquitous year sours in voters minds, and J-Hud cruises to victory. She needs it. I’m beginning to worry about her Oscar. But I’m getting ahead of myself...

The best actor in a comedy or musical category: whacked. No Jamie Foxx? So what he has underwhelmed critics, but his performance is at least as solid as anybody else HFPA threw up in this category. And what the hell is Kinky Boots about and who the hell is Chiwetel Ejiofor?

Biggest surprises: Other than the aforemen-tioned double whammies (and did I mention no Bill Condon?), a snub for Djimon Honsou in Blood Diamond and Emily Blunt coming out of naywhere to get a nod for Devil Wears Prada in supporting take the cake.

The awards season circus is officially underway. Enjoy.

Hey Craig

Chiwetel Ejiofor was the co-star in this year's The Inside Man with Denzel Washington, and he was also in Dirty Pretty Things, Stephen Frears' previous movie before The Queen. He's a great actor, although I have not seen Kinky Boots he is supposed to be the best thing in it.

Thanks, Mad.

Didn't see any of those films.

That category is still whacked.

Agreed on the surprises. But what nice surprises they were.

Sorry to be off topic but thanks for the comments on my site.

Actually, you and I have many other similarites... I'll leave it at that.

There are only 2 more copies of your book available at Amazon.

Hi Dan,

I love off-topic remarks.

And I figured as much.

And thanks! Enjoy. (It gets rough after the "honeymoon" ends. You'll know what I mean soon enough.)

Peace.
