AND I AM telling you I am loving all the Dreamgirls love. Though I have yet to write my own review, for I must see it a few more times before I can give it the kind of analysis it deserves, I can disclose that so much of the criticism of this film is based simply on the viewer just not getting it. That isn’t to suggest that everyone must like it, but the criticism I’ve read to date completely misses the fact that Dreamgirls is an archetype.

But more on that another day.

For now, I am ecstatic that members of the Screen Actors Guild know that a great performance, whether spoken, sung, danced, or all three, is a great performance. Dreamgirls has many. But none greater than the tour de force delivered by Jennifer Hudson, who has now become a nominee in every Oscar precursor there is.

I haven’t seen a lot of movies this season, so I can’t say all that much about the other films and categories, but it certainly is nice to see four Black folks in leading roles, as well as the main characters of that sensational ensemble, honored for their work.

What say you?

great nominations! Interesting that there is no sign of Clint Eastwoods films or Jack Nicholson in the Departed. Go Jennifer!!!

Hallelujah!

I'm loving the Dreamgirls love, you know I am. And to think many thought SAG would overlook it as best ensemble because it didn't feature "real" acting.

But actors know that conveying emotion, revealing inner character, and propelling a story through song is still acting and its core.

Go Jennifer!!!
